PAS is proud to have taken part in a successful effort to compel the Government to scrap the ‘naming and shaming’ clause from Section 35 of the Sentencing Bill. This would’ve meant that people on Probation work orders could be photographed – and Probation subsequently allowed to publish those images alongside people’s names. Such a proposal held particular risks for women – such as victims of domestic abuse, trafficking and forced marriage.
In response, twenty seven Criminal Justice organisations including PAS, Women in Prison, Advance, Agenda Alliance, Centre for Women’s Justice, Hibiscus, Women’s Aid, Working Chance and Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse, compiled and signed a joint letter demanding that this harmful legislation be scrapped.
The effort was also supported by many members of the Lords, including Lord Marks of Henley-on-Thames KC.
Following this collective effort, it was confirmed this month – January 2026 – that the clause had been scrapped.
