{"id":7367,"date":"2026-03-02T11:58:51","date_gmt":"2026-03-02T11:58:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/prisonersadvice.org.uk\/wordpress\/?p=7367"},"modified":"2026-03-02T11:58:56","modified_gmt":"2026-03-02T11:58:56","slug":"moj-expects-over-500-ipp-prisoners-will-still-be-imprisoned-in-2030","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prisonersadvice.org.uk\/wordpress\/2026\/03\/02\/moj-expects-over-500-ipp-prisoners-will-still-be-imprisoned-in-2030\/","title":{"rendered":"MOJ EXPECTS OVER 500 IPP PRISONERS WILL STILL BE IMPRISONED IN 2030"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Ministry of Justice expects that 520 people serving IPP (Imprisonment for Public Protection) sentences will still be imprisoned in 2030 &#8211; without ever having been released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite recent changes in IPP licence conditions which make it easier for those who gain release to have their lifelong licences terminated, there has been little change for IPP prisoners who are still incarcerated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2022, the Justice Select Committee proposed that all IPP prisoners should be resentenced, however both the last Conservative government and the current Labour Government declined to accept the recommendation. Additionally, The Howard League for Penal Reform last year published a&nbsp;<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/howardleague.org\/publications\/ending-the-detention-of-people-on-ipp-sentences\/\">report<\/a>&nbsp;which called for a fixed date for release for all IPP prisoners still in jail.
