{"id":6091,"date":"2023-11-13T10:32:42","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T10:32:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.prisonersadvice.org.uk\/?p=6091"},"modified":"2025-11-21T09:29:57","modified_gmt":"2025-11-21T09:29:57","slug":"pas-november-panel-event-great-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prisonersadvice.org.uk\/wordpress\/2023\/11\/13\/pas-november-panel-event-great-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Jimmy McGovern Panel Event Great Success"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On Thursday 9th November, Prisoners\u2019 Advice Service was delighted to host a panel discussion at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.doughtystreet.co.uk\/\">Doughty Street Chambers<\/a>, focusing on the telling of prisoner stories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The panel featured <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/iplayer\/episodes\/p09fs2qh\/time\"><em>Time<\/em><\/a> writers <a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0569568\/\">Jimmy McGovern<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hblack.co.uk\/index.html\">Helen Black<\/a>, as well as former PAS Co-Director Deborah Russo, who shared her experience of dramatising her recent Criminology PHD research. The panel discussed public interest in prisoner stories, the challenges involved in producing an authentic script and the role of TV in exposing the realities of prison life to a mass audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was moderated by former PAS Chair of the Trustees, Martine Lignon, who recently stepped down from the role after 10 years. She was thanked at the event close for her dedication to PAS by the charity\u2019s Director, Lubia Begum-Rob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Feedback from the event has been overwhelmingly positive so far, with one guest saying: <em>\u2018I just wanted to say thank you for organising last night\u2019s event. It was so interesting and informative and we chatted with some great people afterwards, too.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you would like to watch a recording of the event, you can do so <a
