{"id":3493,"date":"2018-11-22T15:33:24","date_gmt":"2018-11-22T15:33:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.prisonersadvice.org.uk\/?p=3493"},"modified":"2018-11-22T15:33:24","modified_gmt":"2018-11-22T15:33:24","slug":"marcia-willis-stewart-qc-to-give-pas-annual-lecture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prisonersadvice.org.uk\/wordpress\/2018\/11\/22\/marcia-willis-stewart-qc-to-give-pas-annual-lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Marcia Willis Stewart QC to Give PAS&#8217; Annual Lecture"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PAS is delighted that renowned civil liberties lawyer, Marcia Willis Stewart QC (Hon) will deliver PAS&#8217; Annual Lecture this year.\u00a0 The event will take place\u00a0on 22 November 2018 (6 for 6.30pm) at the London offices of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reedsmith.com\/en\/offices\/london\"><strong>Reed Smith LLP<\/strong><\/a> &#8211; Broadgate Tower, 20 Primrose Street, London, EC2A 2RS.<\/p>\n<p>The title of the lecture is \u201cSurviving the Law: supporting prisoners and those detained &#8211; can there be a holistic approach?\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to request places for the event, please e-mail <a href=\"mailto:list@prisonersadvice.org.uk\"><strong>list@prisonersadvice.org.uk<\/strong><\/a> with your name and contact details.<\/p>\n<p>Marcia Willis Stewart is a Managing Partner at Birnberg Peirce &amp; Partners Solicitors and an extremely well-respected practitioner, who has spent her career fighting to uphold the civil liberties of individuals and families in actions against the police and state, inquests, extraditions and more.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst those she has represented are the families of Jean Charles de Menezes, Mark Duggan, and 77 of the victims of the Hillsborough Disaster; she is currently representing many of the victims of the Grenfell fire.<\/p>\n<p>In 2016, Marcia was voted Black Solicitors Network (BSN) Outstanding Lawyer of the Year at the UK Diversity Legal Awards.
